I couldn’t believe how fast I adapted to the cold showers, especially when you consider how challenging it was in the beginning to endure 60-90 seconds.

Let me put this is perspective. Here is a brief outline of my cold showers for the first three weeks. Keep in mind that these times represent the longest I could reasonably endure before becoming totally uncomfortable (in water that was approximately 49 degrees).

Week One Cold Exposure

Day 1 = 60 – 90 seconds
Day 2 = 90 seconds
Day 3 = 3 minutes
Day 4 = 3:50
Day 5 = 5:00
Day 6 = 3:30
Day 7 = 3:30

NOTE: As you can see above, I quickly went from 60-90 seconds max, to 3:30 minutes in just a couple days. Day five I was feeling extra resilient and managed 5 minutes, but overall my “edge” for week one remained around 3:30 minutes.

Week Two Cold Exposure:

Day 1 = 3:30
Day 2 = 3:30
Day 3 = 4:05
Day 4 = 5:00
Day 5 = 5:50
Day 6 = 5:30
Day 7 = 7:00

NOTE: Only my second week and my edge is averaging around 5 minutes and ended the week with a whopping 7 minutes! This is a HUGE increase from the 60-90 seconds I started with only 14 days earlier.

Week Three Cold Exposure:

Day 1 = 8:10
Day 2 = 8:10
Day 3 = 9:00
Day 4 = 10:00
Day 5 = 10:00
Day 6 = 10:00
Day 7 = 10:00

NOTE: As you can see, week #3 was the turning point for me and I was able to pretty easily handle 10 minute showers in 49 degree water. My goal was always to eventually reach 10 minutes daily, but I assumed it would take at least a couple months. I wasn’t in a hurry… this is just the way it naturally worked out.
